180 20 Poros |

This gorgeous little hideaway lies on the outskirts of main village on the island of Poros. Be prepared for some exercise to get to it – 170 steps uphill – but it is well worth the effort. Once a farm, it was in ruins when Marie Luise Antoniadou bought it some years ago, but she turned it into two stylish little houses. They are done in the traditional island style, but with modern and fresh looking interiors. The main house’s top floor is open-space (kitchen, dining and sitting corner) and there are a bedroom and bathroom on the lower level. The studio is one space with a kitchen, a dining corner and a large double bed. There are a few nice luxurious touches such as a Jacuzzi bath in the main house (massage shower in the studio) and top-notch mattresses. The two houses share a swimming pool, but each has its own private terrace.
What makes it special to me:
It feels like having your own house on Poros. The combination of fresh-looking interiors, excellent comfort and great views is hard to beat.
But what you should keep in mind:
The steps to get to the house. It was great exercise when I was staying here in October, but in the summer I guess you may want to avoid going back home in the middle of the day.

There is a good choice of taverna's and restaurants at walking distance. Meals from one of the best (traditional) restaurants on the island can be brought to the houses. You can also cook 'at home'; you will find a small supermarket, a bakery, a butcher and some other shops at about 5-10 minutes' walk from Limeri, and you can also have groceries delivered. |
|
The Limeri House and Studio are situated up on the hill, on the outskirts of the village of Poros. I found it a great spot: it is relatively quiet, but you don't feel isolated at all. Sitting out on one of the terraces looking out over the sea and the waterfront which is always bustling with life, is a great holiday activity. |

The ferries for Poros leave from Piraeus and take one or two hours to get to the island. You can also go by car via the Peloponnese (about 2,5 hours from Athens) and cross at Galatas (the ferry leaves every half hour and the crossing takes a few minutes). You will be met upon arrival at the port. Limeri is less than10 minutes’ walk from the port. The easiest way to find the houses is to first follow the waterfront, and then to climb the 170 steps leading to the houses. You should ask Marie Luise to show you the backroad (path) which is less of a climb. |

Separated by a narrow channel from the shores of the Peloponnese, Poros is only a one-hour trip by hydrofoil from the port of Piraeus, but offers a complete change of scenery and a real away-from-it-all feeling. Maybe not as eye-catching as its neighbour Hydra, where during the summer season boatloads of tourists disembark on a daily basis, Poros does have plenty of charm. It is blessed with dense pine tree forests, sheltered beaches (most are pebble beaches with trees for shade and incredibly clear waters) and a picturesque little town, but does not get a lot of tourism.
