Anthippi Kyriazanou, a young Athens-based architect, has turned the farmhouse where her family lived for several generations into a unique guesthouse. There are eight adorable cottage-studios, which thanks to their thick stone walls stay pleasantly cool in the summer. Inside, they are decorated with extraordinary attention to detail, mixing romantic, arty and traditional elements. Anthippi’s remarkable paintings and artwork made from anything she get her hands on – old iron, shells, starfish, driftwood – pop up in every little corner. The gardens are equally appealing. Terraces with stone and marble tables set in the shadow of wooden pergolas; an old bread oven; a big round table made from an old millstone; greenery and flowers; and last but not least, an attractive swimming pool, all create an idyllic setting.
What makes it special to me:
The charm, the arty touches, the 'living outdoors' feeling, and hostess Anthippi… She turned her guesthouse into something truly unique. Walking distance to the centre of Parikia is another plus.
But what you should keep in mind:
Some rooms are a little small and don't get much light (though that keeps them cool!). Also one or two cottages have very small bathrooms (ask when you book).

Anthippi is just outside the village of Parikia, on a hill, overlooking the sea. The seafront is only 150 m away, and you can easily walk to restaurants and the shops and the centre of Parikia. The port is at 0,8 km. |

Paros can be reached either by conventional ferry boat (about five hours), high-speed boat (three hours) or plane (a few flights a day from Athens). To get to Anthippi from the port of Parikia, you should take a right onto the main road following signs for Aliki and the airport. Then take a left after you pass two petrol stations (there is a small sign for Anthippi), and you will see the entrance after about 100 m on the right. If you come from the airport, look out for the sign for Anthippi on your right as you enter Parikia. |

Paros is something of a Cycladic island all-rounder. Strategically located in the heart of the archipelago, it is quite easy to reach. It offers a combination of beautiful beaches, picturesque fishing ports, a relatively green and mountainous landscape and small traditional villages scattered all over the island. You can find peace and quiet, but there’s also an animated nightlife scene. There are places where you can practise yoga or participate in painting and drawing courses, and sailing, surfing, waterskiing, scuba diving and horseback riding are among the sports you can do.
Naoussa, a postcard-picture fishing village with its little harbour and whitewashed houses, is among the best that Paros has to offer. Parikia, the island’s capital and port, is very attractive as well, with lots of little boutiques, restaurants, café’s and an open-air cinema. And then there is Lefkes, a 16th century village nestled in the hills in the heart of Paros. With its whitewashed houses, narrow winding lanes, numerous tiny churches and rare green setting, it is as seductive as a Cycladic village can get.
There are good sandy beaches all around the island. (No matter what direction the wind blows, you will always find some that are well protected.) Even thought they get crowded in the summer, you should certainly try Kolymbithres in the north of the island, a stunning natural phenomenon of moon-like stones surrounding perfect little sandy beaches. |

Read here what others said about Hotel Anthippi
|
I stayed at Anthippe with my 2 small children and we had an absolutely wonderful time there. We were actually the only guests staying when we were there so that we had the pick of rooms and the pool etc all to ourselves so am not sure what it would be like if the hotel was full with other guests. We were very satisfied with the hotel. I particularly liked the location above the town – far enough away to be quiet but close enough to enjoy everything that the town has to offer and we loved the pool. Anthippe was also lovely and it had a very homey feel. The only thing that I would recommend is that they put a booklet together with a detailed map of the area and some recommendation re places to eat, beaches to go to, taxi phone numbers, bus routes etc. I understand from Anthippe that a lot of the visitors are Greek and know there way around but for non-Greek speaking foreigners like us we need a bit more information to make our holiday a bit easier. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends. Anita D.Melbourne, Australia June 2007 |
